High Speed Rail Link "HS2": Implications for Property Purchasers

The proposed high speed rail link between London and the West Midlands, commonly referred to as "HS2" may have an adverse affect on property and land.

There may be temporary disruption from the construction of the works. Some properties may become subject to compulsory purchase orders and some may decrease in value due to their proximity to the proposed route.

In order to prevent property purchasers from unwittingly purchasing property that may become blighted by HS2, enquiries will need to be made. This can be done by undertaking a search of the land in question or by looking at the HS2 consultation website and ascertaining whether the property lies along, or nearby the proposed route.  www.highspeedrail.dft.gov.uk

The HS2 may not go ahead however all prudent purchasers need to consider the potential implications.

The Government will be giving their decision as to whether they are going to go ahead with the construction of the rail link at the end of 2011.
