Employment: redundancy selection pools

A recent case in the Employment Appeal Tribunal illustrates the importance for businesses of being able to show that they have considered, and properly consulted with affected employees about, whom to include in a redundancy pool. 

While businesses have a fairly wide discretion in this respect, if they cannot show they gave the issue proper consideration, any dismissal that follows may be unfair. This checklist sets out the key issues a business should consider when drawing up the pool of employees from which it makes its selection.
